CVE-2026-30871 is a critical stack-based buffer overflow (CWE-121) affecting the mdns daemon in OpenWrt versions prior to 24.10.6 and 25.12.1. This vulnerability is triggered by crafted PTR queries for reverse DNS domains, where an unbounded strcpy operation on expanded DNS packets leads to a buffer overflow. Rated 9.8 CRITICAL (CVSSv3.1), it allows unauthenticated remote attackers to achieve high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability with low attack complexity. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, nor is public exploit code or significant community discussion available.
