CVE-2025-54879 describes a critical configuration error in Mastodon versions 3.1.5 through 4.2.24, 4.3.0 through 4.3.11, and 4.4.0 through 4.4.3, where the email-based rate limit for confirmation emails is bypassed. This allows attackers to send an unlimited number of confirmation emails to any address by rotating IP addresses, leading to denial-of-service attacks and user harassment. With a CVSS score of 7.5 (HIGH), this vulnerability is easily exploitable over the network with low complexity and can cause high availability impact.
