CVE-2025-2099 is a Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) vulnerability in the huggingface/transformers library, specifically affecting version v4.48.3. The flaw resides in the preprocess_string() function within transformers.testing_utils, where a poorly constructed regular expression with nested quantifiers can lead to exponential backtracking. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this by submitting a specially crafted input containing numerous newline characters, causing high CPU utilization and a Denial of Service (DoS). With a CVSS score of 7.5 (HIGH), this vulnerability has a low attack complexity and no user interaction is required. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this CVE.
