CVE-2022-33744

19
FAUCET Score

CVE-2022-33744 is a Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability affecting Arm guests within Xen environments, specifically impacting Debian and Linux kernel products. An unprivileged guest can exploit a race condition in Dom0's rbtree mapping process, leading to system crashes or an inability to manage memory pages. Rated as Medium severity (CVSS 4.7), it requires local access and high attack complexity, resulting in a high impact on availability. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, publicly available exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this vulnerability.

microsoft2022-Jul/CVE-2022-33744Moderate

Arm guests can cause Dom0 DoS via PV devices When mapping pages of guests on Arm dom0 is using an rbtree to keep track of the foreign mappings. Updating of that rbtree is not always done completely with the related lock held resulting in a small race window which can be used by unprivileged guests via PV devices to cause inconsistencies of the rbtree. These inconsistencies can lead to Denial of Service (DoS) of dom0 e.g. by causing crashes or the inability to perform further mappings of other guests' memory pages.
