CVE-2022-27779

21
FAUCET Score

CVE-2022-27779 is a medium-severity vulnerability in libcurl that allows cookies to be set for Top Level Domains (TLDs) if the hostname in a URL includes a trailing dot, potentially affecting products from haxx, NetApp, and Splunk. This flaw, with a CVSS score of 5.3, enables arbitrary sites to set cookies that could then be sent to unrelated domains, posing a low confidentiality impact without requiring user interaction or complex attack conditions. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage surrounding this vulnerability.

microsoft2022-Jun/CVE-2022-27779Moderate

libcurl wrongly allows cookies to be set for Top Level Domains (TLDs) if thehost name is provided with a trailing dot.curl can be told to receive and send cookies. curl's "cookie engine" can bebuilt with or without [Public Suffix List](https://publicsuffix.org/)awareness. If PSL support not provided a more rudimentary check exists to atleast prevent cookies from being set on TLDs. This check was broken if thehost name in the URL uses a trailing dot. This can allow arbitrary sites to set cookies that then would get sent to adifferent and unrelated site or domain.
