CVE-2022-22178 is a stack-based buffer overflow in the flow processing daemon (flowd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX and SRX Series devices, affecting versions 20.4, 21.1, 21.2, and 21.3. An unauthenticated attacker can trigger this vulnerability by sending a crafted Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) invite packet when SIP ALG is enabled, leading to a denial of service (DoS) due to a flowd crash and PIC reboot. With a CVSS score of 7.5 (HIGH), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable with low attack complexity and no user interaction required, resulting in high availability impact. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
