CVE-2022-0862 describes a password change protection vulnerability in a deprecated API of McAfee Enterprise ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) versions prior to 5.10 Update 13. This flaw allowed a remote attacker to change a compromised session's password without needing the existing password. With a CVSS score of 5.3 (Medium), this vulnerability has a network attack vector and low attack complexity, potentially leading to a loss of integrity (I:L) but no confidentiality or availability impact. While it could allow unauthorized password changes, other protective measures, such as sending a link to the logged-in user, were in place to mitigate success. There is no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion surrounding this CVE. The affected API has since been disabled, and the functionality removed from the User Interface in ePO 10.
