CVE-2022-0652

23
FAUCET Score

CVE-2022-0652 affects Sophos UTM appliances prior to version 9.710, where Confd log files insecurely store SHA512crypt password hashes for local users, including root. This local vulnerability (CVSS 7.8 HIGH) allows an attacker with local access to perform offline brute-force attacks against these hashes, potentially leading to full compromise of the system. While media coverage incorrectly suggests RCE, the official CVSS vector indicates a high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. There is no evidence of active exploitation, nor are there public exploit modules available in Metasploit, Nuclei, or ExploitDB, despite some community discussion.
