CVE-2021-20199

20
FAUCET Score

CVE-2021-20199 describes a medium-severity vulnerability in Podman versions 1.8.0 and later, where rootless containers incorrectly receive all network traffic with a source IP of 127.0.0.1, even from remote hosts. This flaw allows unauthenticated remote attackers to bypass security controls in containerized applications that inherently trust localhost connections, leading to potential unauthorized access or data manipulation. While the attack complexity is high, successful exploitation could result in significant integrity impacts. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this vulnerability.

Rootless containers run with Podman receive all traffic with a source IP address of 127.0.0.1 (including from remote hosts). This impacts containerized applications that trust localhost (127.0.01) connections by default and do not require authentication. This issue affects Podman 1.8.0 onwards.
