CVE-2020-8569 describes a denial-of-service vulnerability in Kubernetes CSI snapshot-controller versions prior to v2.1.3 and v3.0.2. An attacker with low privileges can trigger a panic and an endless crashloop in the snapshot-controller by creating a VolumeSnapshot custom resource referencing a non-existent PersistentVolumeClaim without a VolumeSnapshotClass. This medium-severity vulnerability (CVSS 6.5) primarily impacts the volume snapshot feature, preventing users from taking or deleting snapshots, but does not affect other Kubernetes functionalities. There is no known active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this CVE.
