CVE-2020-5653 describes a critical buffer overflow vulnerability in the TCP/IP function of specific Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC iQ-R series modules, including certain RJ71EIP91, RJ71PN92, RD81DL96, RD81MES96N, and RD81OPC96 models. This flaw allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to disrupt network functions or execute arbitrary code via a specially crafted packet. With a CVSS score of 9.8 (CRITICAL), the vulnerability is easily exploitable over the network with low attack complexity, posing a significant risk of complete compromise (confidentiality, integrity, and availability).
