CVE-2020-5569 describes an unquoted search path vulnerability in the HDD Password tool (version 1.20.6620 and earlier) bundled with specific Toshiba Canvio external hard drives. This flaw allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges if a malicious executable is placed in a specific path due to the tool registering Windows services with unquoted file paths. Rated 8.4 HIGH on CVSS, it poses a significant risk with local attack vector, low attack complexity, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. There is currently no public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB) and no evidence of active exploitation or significant community discussion.
