CVE-2018-7851 describes a buffer errors vulnerability (CWE-119) affecting various Schneider Electric Modicon controllers, including M580, M340, BMxCRA312xx, Modicon Premium, and 140CRA312xxx. This medium-severity vulnerability (CVSS 6.5) can be triggered by an unauthenticated attacker sending a specially crafted Modbus packet over the network. Successful exploitation leads to a denial of service, requiring a device restart to restore functionality.
