CVE-2018-5679 is a critical vulnerability affecting Foxit Reader before version 9.1 and PhantomPDF before version 9.1, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. The flaw stems from improper validation of user-supplied data within specially crafted PDF files containing embedded U3D images, leading to a read past the end of an allocated object. With a CVSS score of 8.8 (High), exploitation requires user interaction, typically opening a malicious file, and can result in full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
