CVE-2018-2942 is a critical vulnerability in the Windows DLL subcomponent of Oracle Java SE versions 7u181 and 8u172, also affecting NetApp products. This vulnerability, with a CVSS 3.0 Base Score of 8.3 (High), allows an unauthenticated attacker to achieve full system takeover of Java SE through network access. Exploitation requires human interaction and, despite being difficult, can significantly impact additional products beyond Java SE itself. While the vulnerability can be exploited via sandboxed Java Web Start applications and applets, it also applies to server deployments and can be triggered by supplying data to APIs. There is currently no known active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage surrounding this CVE.
