CVE-2018-1139 describes a critical flaw in Samba versions prior to 4.7.9 and 4.8.4, affecting Canonical, Red Hat, and Samba products. Despite explicit disabling, Samba improperly allowed weak NTLMv1 authentication, creating a significant security vulnerability. This high-severity vulnerability, rated 8.1 CVSS, permits a man-in-the-middle attacker to intercept and read sensitive credentials and other data due to its network-based attack vector and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
