CVE-2018-0488 is a critical heap corruption vulnerability affecting ARM mbed TLS versions prior to 1.3.22, 2.1.10, and 2.7.0, as well as associated Debian Linux distributions. This flaw allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or trigger a denial of service by sending specially crafted application packets during a TLS or DTLS session, leveraging the truncated HMAC extension with CBC. With a CVSS score of 9.8, it represents a severe risk due to its network-based attack vector and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Despite its critical severity, there is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
