CVE-2017-8485 is an information disclosure vulnerability in the Windows kernel affecting numerous versions of Microsoft Windows, including Windows 7, 8.1, 10, and various Server editions. An authenticated attacker can exploit this flaw by running a specially crafted application to obtain sensitive information. Rated with a CVSS score of 5.0 (Medium), the vulnerability requires local access and user interaction (running the application) to achieve a high impact on confidentiality, with no impact on integrity or availability. While there is no evidence of active exploitation in the wild, a proof-of-concept exploit (EDB-42228) exists, demonstrating kernel stack memory disclosure. Despite this, the vulnerability has received minimal community discussion and media coverage.
