CVE-2017-3861 describes multiple buffer overflow vulnerabilities within the EnergyWise module of Cisco IOS and IOS XE software. These flaws allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to trigger a denial of service (DoS) condition by sending specially crafted IPv4 EnergyWise packets to an affected device. With a CVSS score of 8.6 (HIGH), the vulnerability is easily exploitable over the network with low attack complexity, leading to high availability impact (device reload or buffer overflow). There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion surrounding this CVE.
