CVE-2016-9942 is a critical heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability affecting LibVNCClient in LibVNCServer versions prior to 0.9.11. This flaw allows remote VNC servers to trigger a denial of service or potentially execute arbitrary code by sending a specially crafted FramebufferUpdate message. With a CVSS v3 score of 9.8 (CRITICAL), this vulnerability is easily exploitable over the network without user interaction and can lead to complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Despite its high severity, there is currently no public exploit code available (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), nor is there evidence of active exploitation or significant community discussion.
