CVE-2016-9885 describes an unauthenticated and publicly accessible gfsh endpoint in Pivotal GemFire for PCF versions 1.6.x prior to 1.6.5 and 1.7.x prior to 1.7.1. This critical vulnerability (CVSS 9.8) allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands, leading to denial of service, data confidentiality loss, privilege escalation, or eavesdropping due to unencrypted communications between the gorouter and GemFire clusters. While the vulnerability is severe and easily exploitable over the network with no user interaction, there is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion.
