CVE-2016-9093 describes an input sanitization vulnerability in the SymEvent Driver shipped with Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1 RU6 MP6 and earlier. A low-privileged user could exploit this by running a specially crafted executable, potentially leading to a denial of service on 32-bit and most 64-bit systems. In rare cases on 64-bit systems, it could allow for arbitrary code execution with kernel-level privileges, escalating local privileges. The vulnerability has a CVSSv3 score of 7.0 (High) due to its local attack vector, high attack complexity, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. There is no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage surrounding this CVE.
