CVE-2016-7551 describes a denial-of-service vulnerability in the chain_sip function of Asterisk Open Source (versions 11.x before 11.23.1 and 13.x before 13.11.1) and Certified Asterisk (versions 11.6 before 11.6-cert15 and 13.8 before 13.8-cert3). This flaw allows remote attackers to cause port exhaustion, impacting the availability of the affected VoIP systems. With a CVSS v3 score of 7.5 (High), this vulnerability is easily exploitable over the network with low attack complexity, leading to a complete loss of availability.
