CVE-2016-6170 describes a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting ISC BIND versions 9.9.9-P1, 9.10.x through 9.10.4-P1, and 9.11.x through 9.11.0b1, as well as Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Attackers can trigger crashes on secondary DNS servers via large AXFR responses, IXFR clients via large IXFR responses, or primary DNS servers via large UPDATE messages. With a CVSS score of 6.5 (Medium), this vulnerability has a network attack vector and low attack complexity, leading to high availability impact.
