CVE-2016-5317 describes a buffer overflow vulnerability in the PixarLogDecode function within libtiff.so, affecting libtiff versions 4.0.6 and earlier, including its use in GNOME Nautilus and various openSUSE products. This flaw allows an unauthenticated attacker to trigger a denial of service (crash) by enticing a user to open a specially crafted TIFF file. Rated Medium severity (CVSS 6.5), the attack requires user interaction and has a high impact on availability.
