CVE-2016-4679 is a vulnerability in the libarchive component of Apple's iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS operating systems prior to versions 10.1, 10.12.1, 10.0.1, and 3.1 respectively. This flaw allows remote attackers to write to arbitrary files by tricking a user into opening a specially crafted archive containing a symlink. Rated as MEDIUM severity with a CVSS score of 5.5, the vulnerability requires user interaction (UI:R) and local access (AV:L) to exploit, but could lead to high integrity impact (I:H) by allowing unauthorized file modification. The attack complexity is low (AC:L).
