CVE-2015-8397 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability affecting the JPEGLSCodec::DecodeExtent function in Grassroots DICOM (GDCM) versions prior to 2.6.2. This flaw allows remote attackers to trigger an application crash (denial of service) or extract sensitive information from process memory by providing a specially crafted DICOM image file containing an embedded JPEG-LS image with oversized dimensions. The vulnerability has a CVSS v3.1 score of 8.2 (High), indicating a network-based attack with low complexity, requiring no user interaction, and resulting in a partial confidentiality impact and a complete availability impact.
