CVE-2014-9767 is a directory traversal vulnerability found in the ZipArchive::extractTo function within PHP versions prior to 5.4.45, 5.5.29, and 5.6.13, as well as HHVM before 3.12.1. This flaw allows remote attackers to create arbitrary empty directories on affected systems by providing a specially crafted ZIP archive. Rated with a CVSS score of 4.3 (Medium), the vulnerability has a network attack vector and low attack complexity, but requires user interaction (e.g., opening a malicious ZIP file) and results only in low integrity impact (creation of empty directories) with no confidentiality or availability impact.
