CVE-2014-6416 describes a buffer overflow vulnerability in the Ceph network component (net/ceph/auth_x.c) of the Linux kernel, affecting versions prior to 3.16.3, including Canonical and Ubuntu Linux distributions. This flaw allows remote attackers to trigger a denial of service through memory corruption and system panic by sending a long, unencrypted authentication ticket. With a CVSS score of 7.8 (High), it is easily exploitable over the network with low attack complexity, leading to a complete loss of availability.
