CVE-2014-2730 describes a denial-of-service vulnerability in the XML parser of Microsoft Office 2007, 2010, 2013, and Office for Mac 2011. This flaw, similar to CVE-2003-1564, allows remote attackers to trigger excessive memory consumption and application hangs by submitting a specially crafted XML document with deeply nested entity references, for example, via an email to Outlook. Rated with a CVSS score of 5.0 (medium severity), it requires no authentication and has low attack complexity, leading to a partial denial of service. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this vulnerability.
