CVE-2012-3817 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting multiple versions of ISC BIND (9.4.x, 9.5.x, 9.6.x, 9.7.x, 9.8.x, 9.9.x, and 9.6-ESV) when DNSSEC validation is enabled. Attackers can trigger an assertion failure and daemon exit by sending numerous queries due to improper initialization of the failing-query cache. This vulnerability has a CVSS score of 7.8, indicating high severity with a network attack vector, low complexity, and a complete impact on availability.
