CVE-2011-0657 is a critical vulnerability in the DNSAPI.dll component of the DNS client across various Microsoft Windows operating systems, including XP, Vista, and Windows 7, as well as several Windows Server versions. This flaw allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by sending specially crafted DNS queries, either through LLMNR broadcast queries or a crafted application. With a CVSS score of 9.8 (CRITICAL), this vulnerability has a network-based attack vector, low attack complexity, and can lead to complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. While there is a Metasploit module for a denial-of-service aspect of this vulnerability, there is no evidence of active exploitation in the wild, nor are there publicly available exploits on ExploitDB, and it has received minimal community discussion or media coverage.
