CVE-2009-3290 describes a denial-of-service and memory corruption vulnerability in the KVM hypervisor within the Linux kernel (versions 2.6.25-rc1 to 2.6.31) affecting x86 systems. A local guest OS user can exploit a flaw in the kvm_emulate_hypercall function to access MMU hypercalls from ring 0, leading to a guest kernel crash or unauthorized reading/writing of guest kernel memory at arbitrary addresses. With a CVSS score of 7.2 (High), this vulnerability is easily exploitable locally with low attack complexity, allowing for complete confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts.
