CVE-2008-1842 is a critical integer signedness error in the ovspmd.exe component of HP OpenView Network Node Manager (OV NNM) versions 8.01 and earlier. This flaw allows unauthenticated remote attackers to trigger a heap-based buffer overflow by sending a specially crafted, long request with a negative integer to TCP port 8886. With a CVSS score of 10.0, this vulnerability is highly severe, enabling a complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability (C:C/I:C/A:C) with low attack complexity and no authentication required. Successful exploitation can lead to a denial of service (daemon crash) or arbitrary code execution.
