CVE-2008-0017

27
FAUCET Score

CVE-2008-0017 describes a critical memory corruption and buffer overflow vulnerability in the http-index-format MIME type parser (nsDirIndexParser) affecting Firefox versions 2.x and 3.x, and SeaMonkey 1.x. This flaw allows remote attackers to trigger a denial of service (crash) and potentially execute arbitrary code by sending a specially crafted HTTP index response with a malformed 200 header. With a CVSS score of 9.3, it is considered highly severe, requiring no authentication and moderate attack complexity to achieve complete confidentiality, integrity, and availability compromise. Despite its high severity, there is no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
