CVE-2007-1461 describes a vulnerability in the bz2 extension of PHP versions before 4.4.7 and 5.x before 5.2.2. The compress.bzip2:// URL wrapper failed to enforce safemode or open_basedir restrictions, enabling remote attackers to read bzip2 archives outside of designated directories. With a CVSS score of 7.8 (High), this vulnerability is easily exploitable over the network with no authentication required, leading to a complete compromise of confidentiality.
