CVE-2006-1858

22
FAUCET Score

CVE-2006-1858 describes a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) implementation within the Linux kernel versions prior to 2.6.16.17. A remote attacker can exploit this by sending a malformed SCTP chunk with an inconsistent length, leading to a system crash and potential arbitrary code execution. With a CVSS score of 7.8, this vulnerability is considered high severity due to its network-based attack vector and low attack complexity, allowing unauthenticated attackers to cause a complete loss of availability. Despite its age, there is no public exploit code available (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), nor is there evidence of active exploitation or significant community discussion or media coverage.
