CVE-2003-0835 describes multiple buffer overflows in the asf_http_request function of MPlayer versions prior to 0.92. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by supplying a specially crafted ASX header containing an overly long hostname. With a CVSS score of 7.5, this high-severity flaw is easily exploitable over the network without authentication, potentially leading to full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. While not observed in active exploitation campaigns, a public exploit (EDB-23186) exists, though community discussion and media coverage are minimal.
