CVE-2002-2309 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting php.exe in PHP versions 3.0 through 4.2.2 when deployed on Apache servers, caused by the failure of the executable to terminate properly upon receiving direct requests without arguments. With a CVSS score of 7.8, this high-severity issue is exploitable remotely via the network with low complexity and no authentication required, resulting in a complete loss of service availability. Although proof-of-concept code is available via ExploitDB, there is currently no evidence of active exploitation in the wild or significant community discussion regarding this legacy vulnerability.
