CVE-2002-0698

CVE-2002-0698 describes a buffer overflow vulnerability in the Internet Mail Connector (IMC) of Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5. This flaw allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on the server by sending an EHLO request from a system with an excessively long name, which triggers the overflow during IMC's hello response. With a CVSS score of 7.5, this vulnerability is considered highly severe due to its network-based attack vector, low attack complexity, and potential for complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Despite its age and high severity, there is no evidence of active exploitation, publicly available exploit code in Metasploit or ExploitDB, or significant community discussion or media coverage.
