CVE-2026-31962

29
FAUCET Score

CVE-2026-31962 is a high-severity heap buffer overflow vulnerability in HTSlib's CRAM file reader, affecting versions prior to 1.23.1, 1.22.2, and 1.21.1. This flaw allows an attacker to trigger a single-byte read beyond a heap allocation and a controlled write to the same location when a user opens a specially crafted CRAM file. Rated 8.8 CVSS (High), successful exploitation can lead to program crashes, data corruption, or potentially arbitrary code execution. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation or public exploit code, and community attention is minimal. Patches are available in the specified HTSlib versions, with no known workaround.
