CVE-2026-31962 is a high-severity heap buffer overflow vulnerability in HTSlib's CRAM file reader, affecting versions prior to 1.23.1, 1.22.2, and 1.21.1. This flaw allows an attacker to trigger a single-byte read beyond a heap allocation and a controlled write to the same location when a user opens a specially crafted CRAM file.
