CVE-2026-25145 is a path traversal vulnerability in Chainguard melange versions 0.14.0 through 0.40.2, allowing an attacker to read arbitrary host system files. By manipulating a melange configuration file, an attacker can specify a license file path outside the workspace, embedding its contents into the generated Software Bill of Materials (SBOM). This medium-severity vulnerability (CVSS 5.5) has a low attack complexity and requires local privileges, but can lead to high confidentiality impact through sensitive data exfiltration. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this CVE. The issue has been patched in melange version 0.40.3.
