CVE-2026-24054 is a critical vulnerability affecting Kata Containers versions prior to 3.26.0. A malformed or layer-less container image can cause containerd to bind-mount an empty snapshotter directory, leading the Kata runtime to incorrectly identify the rootfs as a block device. This results in the underlying device being hotplugged to the guest, potentially causing host filesystem errors, double inode allocation, and read-only mounting of the host's block device. With a CVSS score of 10.0, this vulnerability is network-exploitable with low attack complexity, allowing for high integrity and availability impacts. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this CVE.
