CVE-2024-51500

22
FAUCET Score

CVE-2024-51500 is a high-severity vulnerability affecting Meshtastic firmware, where the system fails to validate packets claiming to originate from the special broadcast address (0xFFFFFFFF). This oversight allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to craft malicious packets, leading to a denial-of-service (DoS) attack by amplifying a single message across the entire network, consuming bandwidth and degrading performance. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 7.5 (High) and is easily exploitable with low attack complexity. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion, and it is not listed in CISA's KEV catalog. Users are advised to upgrade to Meshtastic firmware version 2.5.6 or later, as no workarounds exist.
