CVE-2024-45291 is a critical Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability affecting PHPSpreadsheet versions prior to 1.29.2, 2.1.1, and 2.3.0. An attacker can craft a malicious XLSX file that, when processed with image embedding enabled, allows for arbitrary file reading on the server and arbitrary HTTP GET requests. This vulnerability carries a CVSS score of 8.8 (HIGH) due to its network-based attack vector, low complexity, and high potential for confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts, including possible remote code execution if specific PHP wrappers are enabled. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion, and it is not listed in CISA's KEV catalog.
