CVE-2024-2313 is a low-severity vulnerability affecting bpftrace, specifically when it attempts to extract and load kernel headers from a temporary directory. An unprivileged attacker could exploit this by forcing bpftrace to load compromised Linux headers, potentially leading to a denial of service. The CVSS score is 2.8 (LOW) due to high attack complexity and limited impact, primarily affecting systems where kernel headers are not provided by default. There is currently no known active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this vulnerability.

If kernel headers need to be extracted bpftrace will attempt to load them from a temporary directory. An unprivileged attacker could use this to force bcc to load compromised linux headers. Linux distributions which provide kernel headers by default are not affected by default.
