CVE-2023-5566 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Simple Shortcodes plugin for WordPress, versions up to and including 1.0.20. Authenticated attackers with contributor-level permissions or higher can inject malicious web scripts into pages via shortcodes due to insufficient input sanitization. This medium-severity vulnerability (CVSS 5.4) allows for client-side script execution when a user views an affected page, potentially leading to information disclosure or unauthorized actions. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, publicly available exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
