CVE-2023-51518

24
FAUCET Score

CVE-2023-51518 is a critical deserialization vulnerability affecting Apache James versions prior to 3.7.5 and 3.8.0. It exposes a JMX endpoint on localhost, allowing pre-authentication deserialization of untrusted data which, with a suitable gadget, could lead to privilege escalation. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 9.8 (Critical) due to its network-based attack vector, low complexity, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. While the JMX endpoint is locally bound by default, its severity is high. Currently, there is no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code (Metasploit, Nuclei, ExploitDB), or significant community discussion or media coverage.
