CVE-2023-41896

25
FAUCET Score

CVE-2023-41896 is a critical cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting Home Assistant Core versions prior to 2023.8.0 and the home-assistant-js-websocket npm package prior to 8.2.0. An attacker can craft a malicious link that manipulates the 'hassUrl' parameter, forcing the frontend to connect to an attacker-controlled WebSocket backend. This allows the attacker to spoof responses, trigger XSS on the legitimate Home Assistant domain, and achieve a comprehensive takeover, including connecting to the real Home Assistant backend. Rated 9.0 CRITICAL (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H), this vulnerability requires user interaction but has low attack complexity and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. There is no known active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion, and it is not listed in CISA's KEV catalog.
