CVE-2023-40354 is a vulnerability in MariaDB MaxScale versions prior to 23.02.3, 2.5.28, 6.4.9, and 22.08.8, where encrypted passwords entered via 'maxctrl create service' are stored in cleartext within the maxscale.cnf.d configuration files. This medium-severity flaw (CVSS 6.5) allows an authenticated attacker to remotely access sensitive information (passwords) without user interaction, leading to a high confidentiality impact. There is currently no evidence of active exploitation, public exploit code, or significant community discussion surrounding this vulnerability.
